The Echo #5 Classic Ultimate Distance rod was a late arrival last year, but still earned world-wide recognition and became one of our top sellers before the tackle year was over. Many skeptics - beholden to the illusion that a rods power and action are solely functions of material - claimed Tim couldn't make a low-cost distance casting rod. Tim put his brain to work and created a five weight rod that cast farther than any other five weight on the market.
Tims Power Rating is a way of allowing fly fisher folk to better know their fly rod. Saying that a rod is a “three weight” means that it’s generally intended to be used with a three weight line, however it doesn’t necessarily reflect the actual power or stiffness of the rod. Typically, rod manufacturers build their rods close to the rated power; however the actual power can vary over a range. For example, if that rod says it’s a “3 weight”, but the actual power of the rod is 3.9, then it will perform differently than a true three weight. By using “Tim’s Power Rating” you can better identify which rods best match your casting style or fishing conditions.
